Over 19,000 pounds of food. That’s how much Hope Lutheran Church has donated to the Food Bank since 1980. Today, they are the single largest donor of perishable food to the Food Bank. For years, the Hope Lutheran Church collected one or two bags of food each Sunday at service and Claus Schultz, a congregation member would deliver it to the SHARE Food Bank.
In 2007, Claus decided that the church could do more. He recognized that it was difficult to remember to bring a donation of food to each service, so alongside the weekly tithing envelope, he placed a SHARE Food Bank envelope and the congregation responded with generosity.
After getting to know the SHARE Food Bank and our commitment to providing nutritional food, Claus began buying fresh produce directly from the farm. Each week, Claus delivers about 270 pounds of garden fresh food that is highly sought after by our families.
“It’s just amazing how Claus and the Hope Lutheran congregation has responded to the need in our communities and SHARE’s vision of a healthier Food Bank”, says Leanne Beatty, Food Bank Supervisor, “Claus‘ commitment and passion are inspirational!”
