Events and Fund Development Officer – Full Time, Term Position

Under the direction of the Director of Development, the Special Events and Fund Development Officer is responsible for planning and implementing events and campaigns that raise funds, food and other key donations to support our work.  S/he recruits, screens, trains and oversees volunteers to support these activities, the organization’s major gala, IMAGINE and other SHARE initiatives, including the support of 3rd party events.

This position is 35 hours/week, must be available evenings and weekends and must have own vehicle. This is an excluded staff position and is open to male and female applicants.

Commencement date:
September  2014/as soon as possible

Summary of Duties

Event Planning and Fund Development:
•    Increase amount of food and funds raised in all major food drives
•    Plans, prioritizes and coordinates community fundraising campaigns and food drives
•    Recruits, trains and coordinates volunteers to support these activities.
•    Ensures the necessary facilities, equipment and materials are available for campaigns and food drives
•    Represents the agency at community events where appropriate or recruits and trains staff or volunteers to represent the agency
•    Documents community fundraising/food drive statistics and reports, documents volunteer placements, hours, requests and concerns and writes  reports based on the documentation
•    Maintains contact with community groups and donors to promote interest, participation in and support for the organization
•    Hire and supervise employees for some fundraising programs
•    Develop a volunteer plan, implement volunteer recruitment, training and oversee volunteers at IMAGINE and other SHARE initiatives.
•    Secures sponsorships, auction donations.

Communications:
•    Works in partnership with the Communication Coordinator to develop, coordinate and implement all volunteer related communications materials, press releases and other media coverage for events, food drives, donor stewardship and other SHARE related activities
•    Works in partnership with the Communication Coordinator to maintain the agency web-sites and looks for opportunities to use them to engage volunteers and donors.
•    Works in partnership with the Communication Coordinator to maintain Social Networking and develops and implements a social networking plan.
•    Performs other related duties as required.

Education and Knowledge
•    Post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant field or equivalent experience
•    Strong written, verbal and group presentation skills

Training and Experience
•    2 – 5 years recent related experience, including fundraising, public relations and/or volunteer management experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Thrift Store Clerk
Casual/On Call Position

This is an HSA Bargaining Unit Position and requires Union membership.

•    Experience working with volunteers and special needs individuals an asset.
•    Good physical health.

Summary of Duties:

•    Assist with tasks related to the day to day operation of the Thrift Store.
•    Open and close store; answer phones.
•    Act as cashier when required and relieve volunteers.
•    Document and complete banking procedures.
•    Ensure that store quality standards are maintained.
•    Available to work evening and weekend shifts, as required
•    Work with staff, customers, volunteers and donors in completion of duties as directed by the
       Store Manager and/or Assistant Manager.

Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy with paediatric community based clinical experience preferred. Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists required. 3-5 years experience working in a school based program

Flexible schedule – 26.25 hours per week

Summary of Duties: - School Aged Therapy Program

The school-based Occupational Therapist provides services that help students to achieve their highest possible level of independent functioning within the school, home and community.  These services include screening, assessment, consultation, program planning, treatment, administration, education and research. The therapist provides services that promote the fine motor, perceptual motor, sensory, adaptive, postural, and self-care skills of school-aged children/youth who live and/or go to school in New Westminster. The Therapist works with the school based teams and participates in the referral process including using the Priority Intervention Criteria that is used to determine the order of children being seen.

§   This is a position that is assigned to the New Westminster School District and is part of the integrated children’s centre in partnership with Simon Fraser Society for Community Living.
